For week two of Summer Reading, we will make our way to Calvary Chapel to learn about dinosaurs and the animals that still exist today that may be their distant relatives. It’s fun for all ages!
For week three of Summer Reading, we will be enjoying the fun antics of Marty the Magician. Join us for lots of fun!
Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans. It is also often observed for celebrating African-American culture. Originating in Galveston, Texas, it has been celebrated annually on June 19 in various parts of the United States since 1865.
Freedom finally came on June 19, 1865, when some 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as “Juneteenth,” by the newly freed people in Texas.
